It's nice to see a fellow national crowned.
I love that she's bold and committed, in the interview before the competition she said "From the very beginning, I entered this competition with high-hopes and an unswerving determination to make this dream a reality."

Why wouldn't they be with the so many cute variations and when you are not using it, you can fold it into a size of your wallet. This would make a fabulous mother's day gift. I haven't seen many reusable shopping bags that can be this cute and compact.









日本ではもう結構当たり前のエコバッグも紙袋／トレーシングペーパーよりも薄いプラスチックバッグが当たり前のアメリカでは珍しいばかり。エコ／環境といいながらアメリカでは可愛くないエコバッグか買い物の中身をそのまま持ち歩いて出る人がおおい。アメリカ在住の方は母の日にいいかも。

Design to solve world problems

How great is it if design is not only for the rich and privileged but if design was for helping the poor? The current exhibition at Cooper-Hewitt is just for that. "Design for the other 90%" addresses how designers are turning to help the poor.

One of them is the LifeStraw. More then 6,000 people die from waterborne disease every day. This LifeStraw is a purification system that turns any surface water into safe drinking water.

I remember I got really curious about design when one of the interior designers said to me great design = functionality. Even if it's beautiful, if it's useless it's not a good design. At this point I thought whatever looked good was good design. Boy I was wrong.

従来、良いデザインのものは結局お金持ちや購買力がある人の為のものである。もしデザインが貧困の人を助けるものであったら。。。？Cooper-Hewitt Museumの展示『他の９０％の人たちの為のデザイン』は発展途上国などで住んでる人たちの生活を良くする為のデザインをショーケースしている。

例えばLifeStraw。水発生の病気で6,000人毎日死んでいる。LifeStrawはブリタみたいにすぐに水を浄化して安全な飲み水にしてくれる。

new ways of the web

There's all these talk about how there won't be search engines anymore and the way we know
how to get our info over the web is changing. Here's some examples.
we feel fine and universe look really similar in the way they show you information.

We feel fine tracks how people are feeling by pulling information from blogs when the word follows "I feel" "I am feeling". It's kind of similar to when the government would
change the national security warning to yellow and red from how many frown faces people put in their chat. (rumor had it...) But how you can get the aggregate of how people are feeling along with quotes from specific blogs, how people let's say in osaka are feeling is really neat. Especially the interactive design is awesome.

Same with Universe, it gets all the information in the web about all types of news from major news sites to blogs. So if you search about Steve Jobs you can get everything from current news to what was said about him weeks ago. And the easy bar graph will show you at what point he was on the news a lot. It really is nice interface.







ウェブがそろそろ検索エンジンから情報をサーチするのでなく他の方法がでてくるって結構良く聞くようになった。検索エンジンから情報をゲットするのでなかったらどんな方法があがってくるのか？？we feel fine と universe はその検索エンジンがなくなった時点で最先端をはしっているんじゃないかと思わせる二つの新しいサイト。

we feel fineはブログで"I feel" "I am feeling" と始まった文章の感情を取ってきてデータベースにしています。大阪の人が今日どのような気分かとか一つのブログは何を言ってたとか分かります。コンビニとかショップで何を置くかとかのマーケッティングにも使えるかも？？
universeはウェブ上のすべてのニュースを取ってきて、ブログもメジャーなNY Times とかすべて、情報をすべて時期別、大きいニュース別などにみれるようになっています。とにかくでもどっちもデザインが良くっていつ例えばSteve Jobsがiphoneをアナウンスしてニュースにでたかとか一目瞭然になります。
是非トライしてみてください。これから新しくビジネスをするきっかけに役立つかも？

viki as opposed to wiki

this guy thought up of an idea about visual wiki. it would be awesome for creative collaboration and for those that doesn't like to express things visually.

"Viki is a design for a communal art mash up that riffs upon those simple butcher paper drawing sessions from long ago. It is a game design and community site that can be made by anyone with some solid AJAX skills."

wikiはもうwikipediaの影響でウェブ上よく見かけるようになりましたがこのサイトの人サイトの人がビジアル・ウィキ−vikiのアイデアのポスティングをみてこんなのがあればいいのに！と感銘。タッチパネルが発展してウェブ上でそろそろ紙でスケッチしたりブレインストーミングしたりするのと変わらなくなる時代がきそうですね。

clocky has two wheels that allows it to run away from you when it's time to get up, so that you HAVE to find it to hit snooz. it forces people to get up . it's a cute simple design

アラームが鳴りながらベッド下などに隠れるようになってる。
起きれない人とかには丁度いい、クロッキーを探す為にベッドから出ないといけないから。デザインもシンプルで可愛い。

どれだけ自分が出したお金が世間の為になってるか表で見れるのがすごくいい。

営業の人用にアウトルックとヤフーの地図をマッシュアップして営業先
のどこが近いか一目瞭然に見れるのは活用しやすいかも。

i love touch screens. with the announcement of iphone i would be happy to see all the technology moving towards touch screens. it's definitely going to rock the design world too. Love the fact apparently it's PBJ safe!

treoを使い始めてからタッチスクリーンが大好きになったけどこんな大きい画面がタッチスクリーンだったらすっごく楽しいだろう。デザインもすごくしやすくなりそう。

Designarium has awesome collector's skateboards.
Started by Natas Kaupas the guy who incorporated skating on handrails.
These are too fabulous to skate on! (and some just impossible to skate on)
With limited release of 500 boards, people are collecting skateboards
like fine art pieces.

80年代に ストリートスケートに大きく影響したナタス・カウパスがスケーターの
為じゃなくアーティストをバックするスケボーのライン、デザイナリアム。
見れば分かるようにスケボーするにはもったいない。。。
５００の限定販売って事でこれからスケボーコレクターが多くなりそう。
デザイナリアムのまだオフィシャルサイトが無いのが残念。。。

tech meetup

i went to the ny tech meetup yesterday and got to see what's going on in the tech world.

but i have to say i loved all the heckling and joking and neo geopolitical reference for platial...

these are the people who presented.

changing the present-> it's great more people are giving donation presents.

bit wine-> i wanted to do something like this initially. have a video chat community. because what's next after facebook, my space etc? video community. plus it's in line with giving the users monetary incentive. but yea, it may eventually turn into porn...

platial-> it could turn into a great marketing too. demographics and psychographics all can be seen in a map

citizen image-> again giving back money to the users

daylife-> a news platform that analyzes all the news info in the world and connects all that stagnant data. that's pretty amazing.

easy cheap animated cartoon in 10 min-> got to see the previous post. i can't believe you can make animation so quickly and easily!
he demonstrated right there and it was so easy! i loved this one! next is my design team creating animation for the blog.
